The Bent Presents the Regional Premiere of The Inheritance Part I

Palm Springs, CA — April 22, 2025 —
The Bent, Palm Springs’ acclaimed theater company, will debut  this May at the Palm Springs Cultural Center. Running from May 9 to May 25, 2025, this regional premiere promises a powerful exploration of love, legacy, and the experiences of gay men in 21st-century New York.

Inspired by E.M. Forster’s Howards End, The Inheritance captures the struggles and triumphs of a generation shaped by the AIDS epidemic. Critics have hailed it as “an openhearted theatrical epic” (The New York Times) and “a rollercoaster epic” (The Guardian), celebrating its profound themes of love, betrayal, and resilience.

Artistic Director Steve Rosenbaum leads the production, bringing his signature bold vision to Lopez’s sprawling narrative.

“This play is a seismic event in contemporary theater,” Rosenbaum said. “It’s a vital opportunity to spark dialogue about memory, activism, and the power of storytelling within the LGBTQ+ community and beyond.“

The ensemble cast includes James Anthony Blanco, Ronny Borrelli, Kai Brothers, Travis Creston Detwiler, Samuel Moffatt, Willie Mullins, Brian Newkirk, Alex Price, Terry Ray, and Thomas Dodge Wheatley — each actor contributing depth and nuance to this emotionally rich story.

Set in the aftermath of the AIDS crisis, The Inheritance follows a group of young gay men as they navigate identity, intimacy, and a rapidly changing world. Lopez’s narrative blends humor, heartbreak, and hope, offering a tribute to those lost and a celebration of those shaping the future.

The intimate setting of Theater 3 at the Palm Springs Cultural Center provides the perfect backdrop for this immersive, emotionally charged production.
