On-Set Encounter Highlights Growing Risk of Snake Activity in Desert Locations

WHITEWATER, CA — Just two weeks ago, a professional photo shoot came to a sudden halt in Whitewater when a rattlesnake unexpectedly slithered onto the set during an outdoor scene.

The surprise appearance occurred while the crew was mid-shoot and the model was striking a pose.

The snake was only noticed when the model looked down and saw it advancing toward her feet. Despite the presence of a professional snake wrangler hired as a safety precaution, the incident underscores a growing reality in the Coachella Valley—rattlesnakes are active, unpredictable, and capable of breaching even well-prepared production environments.

Fortunately, the wrangler acted swiftly, safely removing the snake without incident. Prior to filming, the handler had briefed the team with step-by-step instructions on what to do if a rattlesnake was spotted. That advance preparation proved essential in avoiding panic and ensuring a smooth resolution.

Snake sightings across the Coachella Valley have been on the rise this season, with recent reports placing them near trails, rock formations, and now, even within active film sets. As the desert warms, rattlesnakes become more mobile—making vigilance critical for anyone working or recreating outdoors.

KPS4 will continue to monitor desert safety developments throughout the region. For guidance on safely working in snake-prone environments, or to learn more about hiring on-set wildlife specialists, visit KPS4.com/safety.
